Salad in a Jar.
I don’t know who started this idea but anything cute with a function is a must-try! And I have been seeing these around… in Pinterest, blogs… So I thought it’s time to make one myself. This came about yesterday when I was preparing my meal. With same ingredients and a few, I could make a Salad in a Jar! 🙂
You might ask why bother when making a salad is easy anyway. Why prepare in advance and store them in jars? First, the jar idea is cute as I have said and this is another way to make use of those mason jars lying around. Recycle and upcycle right?! Second reason is that, though making a salad is easy, why not make it easier?! As easy as opening the jar et voila! Your ready made salad and ready to eat! This is especially awesome as some days you have plenty of time to spare and other days you don’t.
These Salad in a Jar can last for days in the fridge and are quite handy if you wanna bring your own lunch to work or if you’re lucky enough to go to a picnic.
So here’s how:
Pour your choice of salad dressing in the bottom of the jar.
Place hard chopped vegetables such as cucumber, carrots, bell pepper etc whatever you have or like to have in your salad. I used cucumbers and I also put in whole cherry tomatoes. Softer vegetables like sliced tomatoes, avocado etc should be added until the day you’re planning to eat the salad.
Add your grains and beans and/or pasta. I used quinoa. And it was my first time to cook quinoa too! Need bit practice tho for a fluffier result. Aaaand yes I was a bit excited and should wait for the quinoa to cool down before tossing it into the jar…oh well.
Add your cheese and proteins. (Again, only if you’ll be having the salad on the same day otherwise skip this step) I chose to add a fancy meat tuna….from a not so fancy can :p
Lastly, fill the jar with your choice of salad greens such as baby spinach.
Fast-forward to when you’re ready to eat, just take a Salad in a Jar from your fridge, shake into a bowl and enjoy!
As an ex-Flight Attendant, the donut-bun hair trend is nothing new. Required to put our hair up in a bun every time we go to work ~ well this or the French twist which I couldn’t really do.
… Or cut your hair short to the allowed length which, again, for a Curly Sue like me is not so easy to pull off. (I once did the short Felicity hair and let’s just say I was counting the days for my hair to grow back!)
So the bun it is.
Now however, I can enjoy the bun without a grooming officer eyeing me like a vulture. I can glamify the good ol bun aaaand finally use the silk scarves that have been sitting pretty. Two birds, one stone, yey!
So, here it is and moi :))))
Okay. I have taken the plunge. Indulged. Splurged.
…on a diary.
How many pennies does it take to make a pound? They say it depends on the year the penny was made. But one thing I know for sure, it took a lot of pennies to buy my Smythson Diary which costs about 48pounds!
Smythson of Bond Street is a British manufacturer of luxury stationery, leather goods and diaries. Clients have included the current Royal Family, Queen Victoria, Grace Kelly…and now me! Yey!
Frank Smythson made history in 1908 when he created the world’s first practical (tho price-wise now it’s not sooo practical I must say) and portable diary. With its featherweight paper, it is lightweight thus gaining its nickname “the Panama Hat of Books.”
I bought my Panama Diary from Boutique 1 Dubai. It is a part of their exclusive collection made up of 15 international brands that have created a limited edition black and white pieces to celebrate Boutique 1’s first decade as the Middle East’s ultimate destination for fashion.
I was ecstatic when I saw this diary as I have been wanting to buy me a Smythson diary for the longest time. And the gold-stamped FASHION WISHLIST inscription was icing on the cake as I have also been looking for the perfect notebook to write down my
looong list of …well, fashion wishes that I hope my husband will fulfill when he sees the book innocently lying around.LOL
It came in a beautiful blue box and as I held this leather beauty and flipped through the gold-edge pages, I started to doubt if I can actually write on them. Would I dare damage this work of art with my not-so-arty penmanship? Would I dare scribble and doodle on this pale blue paper? And oooh cross outs would definitely be a crime!
So if I cannot use it as I would a regular notebook, then what’s the point you might ask and to be honest I asked myself too. Wellll, I like it and I have always liked “luxurious” items. Maybe silly but we can be silly at times. To spoil ourselves and splurge a little. So Indulge me 😀
Happy Australia Day!!!
Or should I say, Straya :p
Celebrated by Aussies from all backgrounds, at home or overseas, 26th of January marks the day the first fleet of British ships landed in Sydney. It’s also called as Foundation Day/Survival Day/Invasion Day. I guess what to call it depends on whose perspective.
For us, it is a simple family day. We join in with the celebrations by going to the beach and perhaps having a drink and a barbie too. Appreciating the life this great country offers.
